Stardust was the second episode of Space: Above and Beyond to air on a Friday, as had originally been planned. Of course, it was too late to help the show. By this point in its run, Space: Above and Beyond was a dead show walking. Stardust seems to wryly acknowledge as much. It opens with an inmate on death row, watching the clock tick down to midnight. A wry wink at the audience, like all the introspective reflection in the earlier episodes. It is also interesting how Stardust positions itself as a possible companion piece to The X-Files.

Liz Shannon Miller. But what did air was fascinating, as it gave real effort to ground the storytelling in ways that made the scenario seem legitimately plausible. Mooncake is the best — adorable and yet highly lethal. There were plenty of interesting sci-fi touches to the action, including the introduction of clone soldiers that brought up some deep questions about the nature of humanity. But more importantly, there were kick-ass space battles especially given the level of technology available in for such things. Moore returning to sci-fi television for a pilot directed brilliantly!

Space Above and Beyond 1x01 - Pilot, Part 1
It begins with an apparent real possibility of peace, and ends in death and despair. It is bleak, and cruel, with barely any moments of hope. And that, sadly, is the nature of war. Or, to be more specific, the nature of war profiteering. Because one of the possible interpretations of the story arc, taking into account the hints and rumours dropped throughout the series, and the statement from the alien ambassador that his race sent a warning message to stay away from their territory, is that Aerotech deliberately ignored their transmission, and started the war merely in order to profit from it. Which is pretty horrific. There are a number of things in this episode that come off as entirely ambiguous, and open to interpretation, and are still hotly debated by fans of the show, even today.
Space: Above and Beyond is an American science fiction television show that originally aired on Fox , created and written by Glen Morgan and James Wong. Originally planned for five seasons, it ran only for the single — season, due to low ratings. It was nominated for two Emmy Awards and one Saturn Award. In the years leading up to , humanity has begun to colonize other planets. Lacking technology that would enable them to travel faster than light, also known as " FTL technology," colonization is accomplished by taking advantage of transient but predictable, naturally occurring wormholes in space, which allows them to traverse vast distances. Without warning, a previously unknown alien species , the " Chigs ", attack and destroy Earth's first extra-solar colony and then destroy a second colony ship. The bulk of the Earth military forces sent to confront the Chigs are destroyed or outflanked , in part because the Chigs have some form of FTL, affording them greater freedom of movement although this technology appears limited, and the Chigs also primarily utilize natural wormholes.
